Parent Handbook – J
Children are generally discouraged from wearing any jewellery when they are at school. This is because we discourage children from bringing in anything precious to school and also because certain types of jewellery can constitute a health and safety risk.
Ear-rings may only be worn if they are studs and children should be ready for these to be taped over for PE (including swimming) if they cannot be removed for physical activity.
It is the understanding of the school that no religion expects children of primary school age to wear an item of jewellery at all times. However, we are sympathetic to children who wish to wear items of religious significance as part of their faith. We do ask for understanding with this as regards safety during physical activity – e.g., sweat wristbands can be worn to cover bracelets for PE (including swimming) if these cannot be removed.
