Grange Farm Primary School

Special Educational Needs

At Grange Farm we strongly believe that all children have the right to be supported in order to meet their full potential, regardless of their needs or disabilities. We are a fully inclusive school and work hard to ensure that we are able to provide the best support we can for all our children.

Mrs Scott is our school SENDCo (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator) and Mrs Wallis is currently SENDCo whilst Mrs Scott is on maternity leave. The SENDCo maintains an overview of provision for all children in the school on the SEND register. Being on the SEND register indicates that a child will receive additional support in order to meet their full potential.

At Grange Farm we follow the guidance from Coventry's Local Offer which can be found by clicking on the link below:

Coventry Local Offer

As part of the Coventry's SEND Local Offer, there is also something which is called 'Ordinarily Available Support' and it is what a family can expect for their child, without needing to involve specialist services or have an EHC Plan.
In Coventry, expectations for ‘ordinarily available provision’ are set out in three separate documents for Early Years settings, mainstream schools and Post 16 providers.
More information can be found here:

At Grange Farm, children may be put on the SEND register for a wide range of learning, medical or social and emotional needs and the support in place for them will be individual to their specific need. The class teacher maintains responsibility for the day-to-day provision of any SEND child in the class but this is overseen by the SENDCo.

Children on the SEND register may have a Pupil Passport, My Plan, Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Education & Health Care Plan (EHCP) depending on which is more suitable for their level of need. Each level of individual plan will involve a different level of support within school and will follow a varied structure of meetings and reviews to share information and set targets between school and parents.

As a school we work with a range of outside agencies to support the children on the SEND register as well as to identify whether or not a child should be added to the register.

These agencies may include:

  • Complex Communications Team (CCT)
  • Social, Emotional, Mental Health and Learning Team (SEMHL)
  • Speech and Language (Sp&L)
  • The Virtual School (for Looked After Children)
  • Educational Psychologist

School will always request consent from parents for outside agencies to work with their child and parents will be kept informed of the work usually through the report provided by the agency.

At Grange Farm Primary School, we are fully compliant with Section 69 (2) of the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEN and Disability Code of Practice 0-25 years Section 6 and Regulation 51 and Schedule 1 of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.
