5th November:
Year 1 have begun learning about the 1950s this week by starting with learning about how long ago the 1950s was. We created a timeline as a class so we could see what inventions we have had since the 1950s.

They have also started their brand new English text this week, The King's Hats by Shelia Bird. They really enjoyed thinking about how many hats you would need to wear if you were King or Queen.

In Maths the children have been using the part whole model and cubes to make different numbers.

8th November
In Maths we have been looking at the part-whole model. We have been working in groups using lots of resources to support us with this. We have also been practicing writing number sentences alongside the part-whole model.
In Geography we are looking at Our Wonderful World. We have started by looking at the 7 continents and exploring the different sizes and having lots of class discussions about some continents being hot and cold. We have also learnt a new song to help us remember the 7 continents.
Year 5 came down to year 1 to read them their fantastic non-chronological reports. The year 5 children loved sharing their work and the year 1 children were very excited to listen.
Black Country Living Museum

The children visited the Black Country Living Museum to learn about life in the past. They took part in a toy workshop, had a lesson in a Victorian School and explored houses of the past. It was a fantastic day but I think they were glad not to stay in the Victorian school!

1950s Day

The children enjoyed dressing up as part of 1950s day. They took part in lots of activities, enjoyed a visit from a traditional sweet shop and learned some 1950s dancing.

11th December - Carols around the Campfire

It was lovely to see so many parents, siblings and grandparents join us for our Carols around the Campfire. The children performed a range of songs and readings to get us all in the festive spirit.

 17th December - Art Day

Yr1 have been exploring portraits and have been inspired by Picasso and Cubism. They have created their own funny face portraits by cutting out and sticking lots of different shapes. They have also used different art materials such as pastels to also draw and create some more funny face portraits.
