This week, Year 5 have carved and sculpted their own replica jade ornaments. These were based around ancient Chinese artefacts that they researched, such as water buffalo and dragons. They used photographs of ancient primary sources to inspire their work.

In Forest School, Year 5 have been creating Rangoli patterns using natural objects they collected from the school grounds.

This week, Year 5 have been showcasing their home learning linked to our topic on Ancient China. The children have completed a range of tasks such as cooking, painting, calligraphy, writing and researching. Here are some of their fantastic creations!

As the start of our new science unit, this week, Year 5 undertook some training to determine whether they have what it takes to become an astronaut. After learning about the rigorous assessments and training that astronauts at NASA must complete, the children completed a range of activities which tested them on their physical, social and mental abilities.
This week, Year 5 have been showcasing their home learning linked to our Science topic, Earth and Space. The children have completed a range of tasks such as: drawing, painting, computing, writing and researching. Here are some of their fantastic creations!

3rd February
Today, we have been looking at the phases of the moon. We explored how the moon appears to change shape throughout the month and why this happens. We then recreated our own model using oreos.
Spring Term
This term, we have been learning how to play the violin. In our weekly lessons, we have been practising clapping different rhythms, reading musical notation and playing the violins by plucking the strings (pizzicato) and using a bow.
7th March
Year 5 have been celebrating world book day by dressing up as their favourite book character or coming in their pyjamas; sharing their favourite books with their peers and reading to Year 1. We have also created comic strips and illustrations linked to the story Gigantic by Rob Biddulph.
We completed five weeks of training looking at: the phonetic alphabet; how to keep ourselves and others safe on the roads; speeding around the school; road signs and investigating a crime scene.
Now that we are trained, we will be taking on the role of Junior PCSOs around school before training up next year's Junior PCSOs.

During the 6-week project, we have played lots of different and exciting games such as: monkey ball, dodgeball and football. We have also learnt about: what physical activity is; the benefits of moving; how we can keep hydrated and have a balanced and varied diet.

Today, in Science, we have been investigating air resistance. We had to design parachutes of different sizes and investigate how the size impacts air resistance and therefore the speed at which an object falls.

Today, in Science, we have been investigating water resistance. In teams, we had to design and create shapes that we thought would have the least and most water resistance. We then went head to head with other teams to see which group had the shape with the least water resistance and the most water resistance.

Today, we went on a trip to the RSC to do a Shakespeare workshop based on one of his plays - The Tempest. We played games, explored characters and acted out scenes.
